Sacrament
By Lamb Of God
The Story
Released on August 22, 2006, Sacrament continued Lamb of God's rise following the success of Ashes of the Wake. The band entered the recording sessions aiming for a more refined and deliberate sound, emphasizing clarity in the guitar interplay between Mark Morton and Willie Adler while maintaining the aggressive rhythmic foundation driven by Chris Adler’s drumming. The album balances technical precision with heavier groove-oriented songwriting and more dynamic arrangements.
Walk with Me in Hell opens with a gradual build before shifting into fast-paced riffing, establishing the album’s controlled intensity. Again We Rise continues with tight rhythmic structure, while Redneck became one of the band’s most recognizable tracks, combining a driving groove with direct, punchy arrangement. Pathetic and Foot to the Throat maintain the aggressive pacing with layered guitar parts and abrupt transitions.
Descending introduces shifting tempos and darker atmosphere, while Blacken the Cursed Sun slows the pace and emphasizes a heavier, more deliberate structure. Forgotten (Lost Angels) and Requiem continue the album’s balance between speed and groove. More Time to Kill returns to tighter riffing, and the closing track Beating on Death's Door builds tension through repeated motifs and dynamic changes.
Sacrament emphasizes clarity, groove, and structured aggression. The album blends technical drumming, layered guitars, and varied pacing into a cohesive sound. With more polished production and focused songwriting, the record continued Lamb of God's progression while maintaining the intensity that defined their earlier releases.
